Don't chuck those clothes!

19/10/2009 20:33

If you're having a spring wardrobe clean - DON'T chuck those clothes out...yet. Swap-O-Rama-Rama is coming....
Your cast-asides await a new life as swapped, up-cycled or otherwise-improved garments at Swap-O-Rama-Rama.

The first NZ incarnation of this event will be part of the Lyttelton Summer Festival, Feb 20, from 11am-4pm. You bring a bag of clothes and a small entry fee. You leave with as much booty and inspiration as you can carry. The clothes get sorted by garment type and then you swap swap swap till your heart's content.

But there's more. A team of designers armed with Singer sewing machines are on-hand to alter and modify clothes. Something about that skirt you like? Maybe it's better as a dress. Trousers into shorts. Shorts into skirts. Jackets might get short sleeves or long knitted arms added...the possibilities are endless.

Plus there will be DIY workshops that will show you step-by-step how to do simple re-make projects, screen-printing stations, coffee, food, catwalk and loads more.

The idea is that you leave with a whole heap of cool new clothes for almost nothing. And that you take with you the inspiration to re-make and re-use all year round.

Please help spread the word. And get in touch if you're keen to lead a workshop, run a design station or just volunteer as a sorter (first dibs!).
